Online Tournaments vs Store Tournaments
by Alexa Young on Nov.20, 2009, under Kaos Theory
There are many changes or ‘upgrades’ that have been made since Kaos Theory’s store tournaments. Obviously the cost has reduced dramatically giving us new opportunity to make the online tournament experience truly special. Tournament websites like GameBattles are too big to really give players the experience they deserve.
Changes made since the store hosted tournaments:
Cash Payouts Increased
Since we do not charge spectators and are currently seeking sponsors our cash payouts are solely derived from the entry fees.
The old store tournament payouts:
60% Host/40% 1st Place Winner.
The new online tournament payouts:
50% 1st Place Winner/
25% 2nd Place Winner/25% Host.
Entry Fee Decreased
The tournament store had a $10 entry fee or you could go for memberships that had monthly fees but decreased your entry. Silver was $25/Mnth Re-Occurring on a debit/credit card or $35 one time cash payment and entry fee was $5. Gold was $50/Mnth Re-Occuring on a debit/credit card or $60 one time cash payment and entry was $2. There were no chances for free entry and my previous business partners wanted to get rid of the cash payouts.. Insane right.
The tournaments online use the Entry Pay Grade Levels described on our Leaderboard you work your way from $8 entry starting out to $6, then $3 and finally to no entry fee. There are no confusing costly memberships or re-occurring monthly fees our membership is free. As of now we are still working on the membership system itself for the website.
Free Entry
Using the Kaos Ranking System players who are lieutenant general and above have no entry fee into the cash payout tournaments.
Live Tournament Video Feed
Bigger tournament websites don’t have the time or the resources to organize video feeds spectating the tournaments in game while their happening. We will have designated Referees on each team monitoring cheating and player skills. While the Ref is watching a real-time web feed from their point of view is visible in HQ streaming FLV. Watch your favorite team or analyze your opponents tactics LIVE while its taking place without actually being in the game.
If your thinking, “I’ll be able to watch the feed while I’m playing and basically ’screen watch’ my opponent.” Good Luck, no matter what connection you might have there will be at least a 4 second delay. Trying to analyze and predict the 4 seconds will only slow you down and get you killed.
Play Comfortably
You don’t have to worry about the pressure and anxiety of being at a big event with crowds over your shoulder throwing off your game. Play in your PJ’s with a cold beer on your favorite couch. You can use your screen, your controller, all your game settings and personal gamertag.
Ribbons & War Medals
When players pass recruitment and become NCO’s they can earn ribbons and war medals for achievements and recognition. They are given out for completing task such as most kills in a game, player of the year and highest kill/death ratio in an overall tournament. These ribbons and medals earn Kaos points that work you towards free entry to cash payout tournaments.
Check out our Leaderboard for more info
Team Kaos (TK)
Team Kaos (TK) consists of all the members of our house teams and our staff. To be considered for TK you need to get in contact with Andy or another staff member and have a resume with game and event background information handy.
Points Only Tournaments
There will be tournaments scheduled from time to time that are free but will have no cash payouts. Instead only Kaos Points, Ribbons and War Medals can be obtained. All of which increase your Kaos points moving your rank and Entry Pay Grade Level up reducing your entry fees into the tournaments that do pay out.
Tournament Schedule Changes
Our store had many different games on the schedule. We were able to do that because players were at location and we could watch and monitor everything that was going on. Our online tournaments require that we be host and spectate through XBOX Live or Playstation Network. This reduced the amount of games we could run tournaments with to games that have a spectator mode.
In First Person Shooters like Halo 3 and Gears of War 2 we have to actually have a member of staff on each team as a referee spectating for cheaters and fowl play. Modern Warfare 2 has a spectator mode.
Fighters simply need spectator mode period to be able to monitor the outcome. We can’t rely on the players to report honest standings. This reduced us to the three; BlazBlue, SUPER Street Fighter II: Turbo HD Remix and Marvel vs Capcom 2. Which all have spectator modes.

Hey, I came to the store when it was in Savannah. You didn’t have PC tournaments then, and it’s obvious why. Now, you could have PC tournaments. My friend and I would be happy to volunteer to help if you need any. We will help with other things too if you want. We would love to see Kaos Theory Gaming finally succeeed.

Sure we will definitely be working our way into PC game tournaments. Right now we are trying to organize and maintain the tournaments we are currently hosting. As far as other help there are lots of things I am sure we could get you working on. Any help is greatly appreciated and doesn’t go unnoticed. Email info@kaos.pro and I’ll let you know some more details.
